Blackout Blinds

Blackout blinds for bedrooms, nurseries, home offices and suitable roof-style windows, integrated with new shutters or retrofitted to compatible existing shutters.

Blackout Blinds

Where blackout blinds work best

Compare bedrooms, nurseries and home offices, then choose an integrated system with new shutters or retrofitted blackout blinds for compatible existing shutters.

Bedrooms blackout blinds

Bedrooms

For bedrooms where shutters give adjustable daytime privacy and light control, while blackout blinds provide complete darkness at night when lowered.

Why blackout blinds work here

  • Shutters provide up to 98% darkness when fully closed
  • Blackout blinds provide 100% light blocking when lowered for complete darkness at night
  • Raise the blackout blind and use the shutter panels to adjust daylight and privacy during the day
Nurseries blackout blinds

Nurseries

For nurseries and children’s rooms where shutters give adjustable daylight and privacy, and blackout blinds can provide complete darkness for naps and bedtime.

Why blackout blinds work here

  • Blackout blinds provide 100% light blocking when lowered, which can support naps and bedtime routines
  • Raise the blackout blind and use the shutter panels to adjust daylight between sleep times
  • The shutter panels still provide privacy without keeping the room fully dark
Home offices and media rooms blackout blinds

Home offices and media rooms

For home offices and media rooms where shutters manage daylight, and blackout blinds block it completely when you need to work or watch without outside light.

Why blackout blinds work here

  • Lower the blackout blind to reduce screen glare during focused work or viewing
  • Blackout blinds provide 100% light blocking when lowered for complete darkness
  • Use the shutter panels to adjust daylight without fully darkening the room

The specification

What makes a blackout blind effective?

The confirmed product, fitting, price, warranty and operation details for both routes.

01

One confirmed blackout product

Both fitting routes use the same honeycomb blackout blind. It uses nonwoven polyester fabric and comes in black only. There are no alternative fabric or colour options.

02

100% light blocking from the blind

Plantation shutters provide 98% darkness when fully closed. The blackout blind blocks 100% of light when lowered, providing complete darkness. That complete result comes from the blind or combined system.

03

Integrated with new shutters, manual only

For a new shutter order, the blackout blind sits at the rear of one made-to-measure frame. The shutter panels hinge on the front. This integrated system is manually operated.

04

Retrofitted to compatible existing shutters

We retrofit blackout blinds behind suitable shutter panels you already own when the window and shutter layout allows it. This option can be manually or electrically operated. A home survey confirms the fitting arrangement.

05

Suitable VELUX and roof-style windows

We can fit blackout blinds to suitable VELUX and roof-style windows. A home survey confirms the window layout and fitting arrangement before we quote.

06

Price and warranty

Blackout blinds cost £158 per square metre including VAT, a home survey, supply and fitting. They have a 5-year warranty. We price new shutters separately.

Blackout blinds with shutters

Which blackout option should you choose?

Shutters provide 98% darkness when fully closed. Blackout blinds in either fitting route block 100% of light when lowered, providing complete darkness.

Shutters alone

  • Adjustable daylight and privacy are the main priorities
  • You do not need complete light blocking
  • You want only the architectural shutter finish
  • You want louvres and panels for daytime control

Integrated with new shutters

  • You are ordering new made-to-measure shutters
  • You want the blind and shutters in one frame
  • You need shutter control by day and 100% light blocking from the blind
  • The integrated blackout system is manually operated

Retrofitted blackout blinds

  • You already have shutters that may accommodate blackout blinds
  • You want blackout blinds retrofitted behind those shutter panels
  • Choose manual or electric operation
  • A survey confirms the suitable fitting arrangement
