Why Choose Us

Why homeowners choose Shutters Design

A good shutter job starts before anything is ordered. We check the windows, find the right solution, price the work clearly, and fit the shutters ourselves.

One team, start to finish

The same family team handles the survey, measuring, fitting, and aftercare. If something needs adjusting afterwards, you call us directly.

Two ways to order

Express is built for speed, with UK-made shutters and a shorter lead time. Plan & Save is built for value, with a longer lead time and a better price.

Made to last

Polycomposite is waterproof and provides better thermal and noise insulation through metal insertions inside the louvres and frame. Hardwood is lighter real basswood for larger panels in dry rooms.

Honest advice, room by room

The right shutter depends on the room. We talk through privacy, light control, moisture, and insulation so the final choice is practical.

Hersham Shutter Guide
01

Plantation shutters for Hersham’s mixed suburban housing

Elmbridge’s Design Code describes Hersham as predominantly low-density and suburban, with a documented mix of 1930s and 1950s housing, 1960s to 1980s semi-detached homes, smaller Victorian terraces, and newer development. The centre is focused around Hersham Green, while residential streets vary in plot size, age, and window proportion.

A new shutter scheme needs to respond to that mix without pretending every Hersham home has the same opening. We measure the height, width, recess, handles, mullions, and available folding space at each window. That gives a smaller terrace window, a bay, a bedroom, and a later family-room opening the panel arrangement each one actually needs.

02

Shutter layouts for Victorian, interwar and semi-detached windows

Where a smaller Victorian front window needs privacy, cafe style can cover the lower glass and leave daylight above. Tier on tier adds separate upper and lower panels to a taller opening. Where an interwar or post-war home has a bay, full height shutters can follow its individual faces and angles for a continuous line across the room.

Later semi-detached houses and newer homes can introduce wider windows, deeper reveals, or different handle positions. We check whether panels should fold left, right, or split from the centre, and whether a tracked layout is justified by the width. The design follows the measured opening instead of assigning one shutter style to a housing period.

03

Materials and proportions near Hersham Green

Hersham Village Conservation Area is centred on The Green, Vaux Mead, Memorial Gardens, and properties overlooking those open spaces. Elmbridge identifies the grouping of buildings around the greens and mature trees as part of the area’s character. For an interior shutter, panel widths, louvre size, and frame depth should sit quietly with the window rather than overpowering a smaller older opening.

Hardwood is real basswood and works in dry living rooms and bedrooms where timber character and lighter panels matter. Polycomposite is waterproof and carries a 10 year guarantee, making it the practical choice for bathrooms, kitchens, and humid rooms. The material can change by room while the visible colour and panel lines stay coordinated across the Hersham order.

04

Hersham shutter survey, prices and lead times

The home survey is free. We bring material and colour samples, measure every opening, and record the recommended frame, louvre, panel layout, and order route before you decide. There is no deposit until you order. The same family team then carries that written specification through to fitting as part of the new made-to-measure order.

Plan & Save is £260/sqm in either material and takes around 8 to 9 weeks. Express shutters are UK-made and take about 2 to 3 weeks, at £315/sqm in Polycomposite or £380/sqm in Hardwood. Polycomposite carries a 10 year guarantee and Hardwood a 5 year guarantee. The written quotation confirms the exact price after the Hersham windows are measured. All published shutter rates include VAT, the home survey, supply and fitting.
