Plantation Shutter Maintenance
Routine care for shutters that are still sound but need cleaning, adjustment, or a proper check over.
We maintain shutters from any brand, including installations we did not originally supply.
Maintenance Services
Keep good shutters working properly
Maintenance is for shutters that are mostly working, but need cleaning, tuning, or adjustment before small issues turn into repairs.
Deep cleaning
Dust, pollen, kitchen film, and everyday build-up are removed from the louvres, frames, hinges, and tilt mechanism without damaging the painted finish.
Hinge and catch adjustment
Loose hinges, uneven catches, and panels that no longer close neatly can often be brought back into line before they become a full repair issue.
Tilt-rod and louvre tuning
Louvres should hold their angle without dropping. We check the movement and tension so each panel feels consistent again.
Paint and finish advice
Where the surface is tired but the shutters are sound, we advise whether light on-site refinishing or a bigger respray makes sense.
When To Book
Maintenance is usually cheaper before something breaks
If the shutters are starting to feel stiff, dusty, uneven, or tired, a maintenance visit can often bring them back before they need a repair.
Good shutters should feel easy to use
If panels scrape, louvres drop, or catches need forcing, the hardware usually needs attention. Small adjustments made early prevent larger repair work later.
Bathrooms and kitchens need a closer eye
Steam, cooking residue, and cleaning products can shorten the life of a finish if they are left to build up. Polycomposite handles moisture best, but the hinges and catches still benefit from care.
Older shutters are worth assessing first
A maintenance visit tells you whether the shutters are sound enough to keep, need a simple repair, or are no longer worth spending money on.
Maintenance Process
How a maintenance visit works
Four steps, from checking the existing shutters to cleaning, adjustment, and simple aftercare advice.
Condition Check
We inspect the shutters, frame fixings, hinges, louvres, catches, and painted finish so the visit is based on what the installation actually needs.
Maintenance Plan
We explain what is worth doing: cleaning, hinge tightening, tilt-rod adjustment, minor refinishing, refitting, or repair where a fault has started.
Clean, Adjust, Refinish
We carry out the agreed maintenance carefully, working through the hardware, louvres, panels, and finish so the shutters operate cleanly again.
Aftercare
We check the shutters before leaving and explain the simple care routine that keeps them clean, aligned, and smooth between service visits.
Need A Repair Instead?
If something is broken, start with repairs
Maintenance is for care and adjustment. If a louvre has snapped, a panel has dropped, or the shutter no longer operates correctly, the repairs page is the better starting point.

Frequently Asked Questions
They are low-maintenance, but not no-maintenance. Dusting, occasional damp-cloth cleaning, and periodic hardware checks keep them working well. Older shutters may benefit from a maintenance visit every few years.
Maintenance keeps working shutters in good condition. Repairs fix a fault that has already appeared, such as a broken louvre, dropped panel, loose tilt rod, or damaged hinge.
Yes. We assess shutters from any brand. If they are sound enough to service, we can clean, adjust, and advise on future care.
Sometimes. If the panels and frame are structurally sound, refinishing may be worthwhile. If the shutters are warped, badly made, or poorly fitted, replacement may be the better long-term answer.
Yes, on request. Annual or twice-yearly visits can be arranged for managed properties, rental homes, and customers who want their shutters checked routinely.
