Repair is usually right when...
A single component has failed: a snapped louvre, a worn staple, a tilt rod that has disconnected. Replacement parts in matching finishes are usually available and a single panel can be made good in 1 to 2 hours of work.
The shutters are out of alignment after new windows or settlement: shutters do not need to be replaced just because the windows moved underneath them. Adjusting hinges, trimming the frame, and refitting to the new geometry restores them.
The finish has aged but the structure is sound: dusty, faded, or tired-looking shutters can be deep-cleaned, re-lubricated, and (for Hardwood) refinished, often making a 15-year-old set look five years old again.
Repair is also worth checking before new windows
Existing shutters often can be removed before window replacement and refitted afterwards. Many homeowners are told they need brand-new shutters after changing windows, but that is not always true.
The final answer depends on the new window position, the reveal, the frame depth, and how the original shutters were fitted. If the new windows sit differently, the shutters may need adjustment, packing, trimming, or a different fixing approach.
A repair assessment before the window work gives you a clearer plan and can save a usable installation from being thrown away unnecessarily.
Replacement is usually right when...
Multiple panels have structural damage: warped panels, frames that have come apart, or shutters that have suffered water damage on a hardwood that was never rated for it.
The shutters were a poor product to begin with: some early budget composites from defunct suppliers do not justify the repair cost. We will tell you honestly if that is what we find.
You are renovating the room anyway: if you are changing the window style, the room layout, or the wall treatment around the window, fitting new shutters during the renovation is usually cheaper and cleaner than retrofitting later.
How we make the assessment honest
Our repair assessment visit is free across the core service area. We look at the fault, the wider installation, the age and condition of the product, and the practical options available to you.
If repair is the right route we quote it fairly: typical single-window repairs are GBP90 to GBP180. If replacement genuinely makes better sense, we tell you and explain why, and we quote for that too. You take the quote home and decide in your own time.
We do not push replacement when repair will do, because the long-term relationship matters more than a single sale.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. We can usually assess and repair shutters fitted by another company, depending on the condition, material, hardware, and whether suitable replacement parts are available.
Yes. In many cases shutters can be carefully removed before window replacement and refitted afterwards, although the final result depends on the new window frame, reveal, and original fitting.
Replacement usually makes more sense when the material has warped, several panels are structurally damaged, the shutters no longer fit the window, or the repair cost is too close to a new installation.
Common shutter repairs include loose hinges, worn pins, panel alignment, magnets, catches, damaged louvres, and removal or reinstallation after building or window work.
