Common shutter problems we fix
Most shutter faults fall into a recognisable set of categories. If you are seeing any of the following, a free assessment is the sensible first step.
Louvres won't stay in position
Louvres that fall open or won't hold their angle are usually a sign of worn staples or a loose tilt rod. In many cases this can be addressed without replacing the whole panel.
Panels out of alignment
If a panel has dropped, will not sit flush in the frame, or has started to catch on the sill, the hinges or frame fixings may need adjusting or replacing.
Stiff or sticking operation
Shutters that have become difficult to open or close may need hinge adjustment, lubrication, or realignment. High humidity can make this more obvious.
Damaged louvres or panels
Cracked, split, or broken louvres can sometimes be replaced individually rather than replacing the whole panel or frame, depending on the shutter construction.
Removal and refitting for new windows
Existing shutters can often be removed before window replacement and refitted afterwards, depending on the new frame position and fixing points.
Repair Process
How a repair assessment works
Four steps, no unnecessary back-and-forth. We see the shutters in person before we quote any work.
Assessment Visit
We visit your home, inspect the shutters in person, and diagnose the fault properly. We look at the full installation rather than just the obvious problem.
Honest Recommendation
We explain what is wrong, what the repair involves, and whether it is worth doing given the age and condition of the shutters.
Repair Work
If we can fix it, we book the work in and give you a clear price before anything starts. We repair, realign, refit, or replace parts only where the existing shutters are still worth saving.
Aftercare
We check the operation before leaving and explain any care steps that will help the shutters stay aligned. If replacement is the better answer, we say that clearly.
Need maintenance instead?
If nothing is broken and the shutters just need cleaning, adjustment, or finish advice, maintenance is the better starting point.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. We assess plantation shutters regardless of where they were purchased or who fitted them originally. If the shutter can be repaired properly, we quote for the work; if it cannot, we explain why.
That is exactly what the assessment visit is for. We look at the fault, the wider installation, the age and condition of the product, and the practical options available to you.
In many cases, yes. If the frame and panels are otherwise sound, replacing damaged louvres individually is usually more sensible than replacing the whole shutter.
It depends on the fault and the scope of work. We do not quote without assessing in person, so you have a clear written price before any work begins.
Yes. Existing shutters can often be removed before window replacement and refitted afterwards. We need to assess the current installation and planned window position first.
