Polycomposite
RecommendedThe standard for conservatories and garden rooms where condensation and temperature swings are part of daily use. 10-year manufacturer guarantee.
Conservatories depend on good heat and light management. Without proper coverings they are unusable on summer afternoons and freezing on winter mornings.
Plantation shutters across the side glazing solve both. Polycomposite handles the humidity and condensation that real timber would struggle with. Tracked configurations handle wide bi-fold or patio sections.
The room's brief
Conservatories have larger glass areas than any other room in the house. The shutters need to handle the temperature swings, the condensation cycle, and the wide spans of glazing.
Polycomposite is the practical choice for the material because of the humidity cycle. For wide bi-fold or patio sections, tracked configurations are the only thing that works.
Priorities for this room
Tilt the louvres to angle direct sun off the seating area in summer, close them to retain warmth in winter. Far more effective than curtains for either job.
Conservatories see daily condensation cycles. Polycomposite is engineered for that environment - real timber would warp and lift over years of moisture swings.
Bi-fold doors, sliding patio doors, and large casement windows are common. Tracked shutters span openings that hinged shutters cannot.

Not rated for the humidity cycle a conservatory sees. Polycomposite is the right material for this room type.

Not by us. Roof glazing typically uses specialised pleated blinds or roller systems designed for the angle and the heat load. We focus on the vertical glazing - the side panels and the doors - where plantation shutters are the right answer.
Yes. Polycomposite is dimensionally stable up to well above the temperature a UK conservatory reaches. Tilting the louvres to angle direct sun away from the seating area drops the room temperature significantly compared to leaving the glazing uncovered.
Condensation on the glass is a glazing issue, not a shutter issue - it happens behind the shutter and dries off as the room warms. Polycomposite does not absorb the moisture or develop mould. Hardwood would absorb it; that is why we do not fit hardwood in conservatories.
Up to about 6 metres wide reliably. Beyond that we look at double-track configurations or split the opening into two systems. The exact maximum depends on the ceiling/head support and the chosen material - we confirm at the survey.
Usually a full day for the typical 3-4 panel side glazing plus tracked doors. Larger conservatories with multiple bays may run to two days. We confirm timing at the survey based on the actual configuration.
